A crucial time in the calendar for our farm. The sound of the songbirds in the hedgerows signals the lengthening of the daylight hours and the beginning of warmer weather.
The birth of lambs and calves is an important time for the livestock on the farm but also a delicate one too. Mothers and newborns need to be cared for and monitored to ensure all is progressing as planned. Over the course of the next month we expect our breeding flock of ewes to all give birth. We have 105 pregnant sheep on the maternity ward, with 197 lambs expected between them. Many are due to have twins which is ideal, and ten even expecting to have triplets!
The beef cattle look forward to the warmer weather when they can be given more freedom across the farm as once wet and waterlogged ground around the River Tern will now provide lush grazing pastures once it’s had time to dry out!

The team are also out mending weathered and worn fence lines after the winter, making sure that the fields, meadows and rivers are all securely fenced so that in the height of summer the sheep and cattle can graze for the very best pastures without risk of them exploring where they shouldn’t.
We love it when the colours of Spring start to shine through - we get a real spring in our step from it, so please come and visit if you get the chance.
