August 2026

It’s certainly been hot!

Whilst we were pleased to see the sun at the beginning, we’d love to see some rain now. I’m sure we all would!

Like most grassy areas across Britain, our fields are very parched and currently more of a yellow colour than the lush green we usually see. Typically, this would cause concern about the amount of available feed we have for our animals, but as we had such a wet, warm spring, we have plenty of bales on hand if needed.

We had 2 litters of piglets last month, one of which was delivered outside it was so warm. We’ll be keeping an eye on them across August and continue to ensure they have access to plenty of mud so they can protect their skin from the sun. As with all our animals they also have lots of shaded areas to help keep them cool. In fact, that’s right under the apple trees, so the pigs are very happy!

You may have seen that we’ve been very busy recently. We’ve been celebrating 20 years of community ownership. A huge milestone! BBC Midlands Today filmed a lovely news article, with Bob Hockenhall visiting to share our story. To celebrate we’ve launched a new share offer. We’d love to welcome 1,000 new community shareholders to help shape the future of landownership. If you’d like to be a part of our journey, please follow the link below. We also hosted a 20th Anniversary Supporters Celebration early in July to thank all our supporters, volunteers and staff. We grateful to everyone who’s been involved.

We’ve also been awarded a Great Taste award for our pasture fed sirloin steak. Yeay! The judges gave us some great feedback; “It’s certainly a crowd-pleaser”, “a stunning looking cut that smells great” and “it looks the part, juicy and appealing, with a lovely enticing aroma”. It’s been so busy for the team recently, so this really helped make us smile!
